If you haven’t made bacon in the oven, what are you waiting for?! This method is so quick and easy, and did I mention mess free? Cook up a batch to go along with your morning eggs or weekend pancakes and waffles. This method is also great for making large amounts for gatherings.

    Is Bacon Whole30?

As a certified Whole30 coach, I feel this is an appropriate place to start as it is also a question I get often.

Certain brands of bacon are definitely Whole30 compatible! In order for bacon to be Whole30 compatible it must be free from sugar, carrageenan, sulfites, and MSG. (Here is a cheat sheet for off limits Whole30 additives).

Thankfully, Whole30 bacon is becoming easier to find in stores and in generic brands. As always, be sure to check the ingredients but here are some of my favorite Whole30 approved bacon brands:

    Butcherbox

Pederson’s Farms - use the code “EMILEE” for $10 off your order!

    Nature’s Rancher

    Naked Bacon

    Applegate

Ingredients & Equipment Needed for Oven Bacon

    • Whole30 compatible bacon - see above for my favorite brands.
    • Wire rack - like used for cooling cookies!
    • Baking sheet - with sides.
    • Parchment paper - for lining the baking sheet to make cleanup a breeze!

How to Make Bacon in the Oven

    1. Place the wire rack on the parchment paper lined baking sheet.
    2. Place the bacon in a single layer on the wire rack, being sure not to overlap the bacon.
    3. Bake for 14-20 minutes at 400F. This depends entirely on how thick the bacon slices are. Start checking at 14 minutes and remove from oven when bacon has been cooked to desired crispness.
    4. Remove bacon from oven, allow to cool slightly and transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel.
    5. Enjoy!

How long do you cook bacon in the oven?

The cook time on this recipe varies greatly based on how thick the bacon is! Begin checking the bacon at 14 minutes and remove from the oven when the bacon is crisp to your liking!

    FAQ's

Why should I use a wire rack to cook bacon in the oven?

Using a wire rack allows the grease to drip down in the pan, creating the perfect crispness to your bacon!

Does bacon in the oven splatter?

No! That is what makes this method of cooking bacon so awesome! Cooking bacon in the oven is substantially more mess free than on the stovetop, as there is relatively no splatter, and what little splatter there is, is contained by the sides of the baking sheet.

Can cooking bacon in the oven start a fire?

Would I even be a fire wife if I didn’t address bacon grease and oven fires? As I mentioned above, the bacon grease in this method is contained to the bacon pan. This is why it’s important to use a traditional baking sheet with sides.

That being said, in general, it’s a good idea to always keep your oven clean from any kind of grease or food remnants to reduce fire risk.

What should I do with leftover bacon grease?

While you can certainly discard the parchment paper with excess bacon grease, you can also save it for future recipes!

With the bacon fat still in a liquid state, simply pour it into mason jar and store it in the fridge. Use the reserved fat for making eggs, sautéing veggies, or cooking other meats!
